Application of energy-dispersive x-ray fluorescence

Minerals, metal and rocks are often imagined to be resilient and last forever. On the other hand, these materials are of great interest to scientists and engineers. They do this by studying metal and mineral properties up close. A unique device that they employ is one with the fancy name of Energy-Dispursive X-Ray Fluorescence (EDXRF). One such leader that has successfully made important discoveries in this pioneering field of science is a company known as Nanyang JZJ. 

So how does EDXRF work? You see, it all begins with firing X-rays at a sample of the metal or mineral. So as the sample is hit by X-rays, some of those rays bounce back and are captured by a detector. This detector records data that informs scientists of the composition and relative quantities (%) by mass for each element in a sample. It is highly useful information as it can reveal whether there are undesired compounds mixed in the metals and minerals, or provide scientists with insight into what rocks of certain types consist.

Scientists can use EDXRF to analyze genius … the chemical composition of one-of-a-kind paintings, ancient artifacts from antiquity and even medical devices people actually rely on every day. Moreover, this technology is also ideal for carrying out tests on the materials employed in manufacturing at factories. For instance, it might examine the thickness of paint on a car to ensure all checks out and is up-to industry standards. 

The technology in EDXRF has evolved significantly over the years. This means that scientists can now generate maps from which we know exactly where each atom or element is located in the sample. We refer to this as high-resolution mapping. It allows the scientists to actually see how's is found each element within the sample.
